Welcome
The African Politics Research Group comprises academic staff and students from Politics and African Studies. We have a number of over-lapping and integrative interests, which include post-colonial state forms, national and local identities and beliefs, and the impact on these of international structures and institutions. Our research addresses the ways in which power and discourses of the state and politics and exigencies of life and livelihoods are mediated and shaped.
In addition, we have interests in the politics of development in Africa, and how knowledge both depicts and prescripts African realities and development trajectories. As this suggests, our research is interdisciplinary, and we benefit from the research community at the Centre of African Studies, and the University of Edinburgh’s excellent library resources, as well as our networks in the UK, Europe and Africa.
