Previously, he has been in office of the Minister President of the State in Stuttgart and for a dozen year he worked at the European Commission and the Committee of the Regions in Brussels.
Prior to becoming a public official, Dr. Gaissert was a lawyer in Stuttgart. He has a doctorate from the University of Tübingen and has also studied at the universities of Munich and Bonn and the London School of Economics.
His lecture will discuss how a major state in the Federal Republic of Germany can be involved in activities of the European Union not only within the framework of the federal government in Berlin but also through an office in Brussels.
This seminar is jointly hosted by the Europa Institute and the University of Aberdeen. It is part of a general lecture series on Scotland in the World organised by the University of Aberdeen as a contribution to the national discussion about Scotland's future(http://www.abdn.ac.uk/pir/siw).
