The recent fall of left-wing governments in Latin America is often attributed to the failure of governments to maintain economic growth and the burden of oversized public sectors. Prof. Leiras reinterprets the fall of the Left as resulting not only from the economic consequences of flawed policies, but also the social and political tensions that successful initiatives brought about.
