Hosted by Professor James Mitchell (Director of Academy of Government, Univeristy of Edinburgh) and Dr Lynn Bennie (Reader in Politics, Aberdeen University), this public seminar will present data from surveys of the two independence supporting parties in Scotland. Funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the surveys follow a previous study in 2007/08 of the SNP. Research on the surveys of the memberships of the two parties was supplemented with interviews with senior pary members. This updates and extends research which resulted in J. Mitchell, L. Bennie & R. Johns, (2012), The Scottish National Party: Transition to Power. Oxford University Press.

The presentations will cover the demographics of membership (age, gender, class, education etc), levels of activism in the parties, attitudes on the constitution and a range of other policy matters, attitudes and values.
