Third Research Visit to Russia - October 2008

Three members of the project team, Roland Dannreuther, Luke March and Ekaterina Braginskaia, undertook a third research trip to Russia, 10 October - 1 November 2008.  In two visits to Moscow, they had update meetings with project partners at the Oriental Institute and SOVA Center for Information and Analysis. They collected material and conducted interviews with representatives from official and unofficial Muslim organisations, religious leaders and Muslim scholars.  A visit to Kazan, Tatarstan was arranged by research fellow Azat Khurmatullin, followed by the two principal investigators visiting Dagestan.  Further interviews with academics, clerics and politicians were held in each location. Visit of International Fellows – June 2008

Three international fellows will visit Edinburgh in June to conduct research for and assist with the project. Akhmet Yarlykapov (Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, Moscow), Azat Khurmatullin (Russian Islamic University, Kazan) and Elaheh Koolaee (University of Tehran) will visit for three weeks.   Shorter visits will be paid by Dina Malysheva (IMEMO, Moscow) and Alexander Verkhovsky and Galina Kozhevnikova (SOVA Center, Moscow).
