EU-Funded EXACT Fellows Visit Edinburgh

The 12 PhD students fully-funded under the EXACT programme (EU External Action and its Institutional Architecture), an EU-financed Marie Curie International Training Network, visited Edinburgh on 9-11 December 2010.

The study programme featured a welcome from Charlie Jeffrey, Head of the School of Social and Political Science, as well as Fiona Mackay (Head of SSPS’s Grad School) and Andy Thompson (PIR’s Convenor of Postgraduate Studies).

The EXACT Fellows also had fun (!). Drinks in the historic Raeburn Room were followed by a meal on Drummond Street, which Robert Louis Stephenson frequented (the former Rutherford’s Bar) at the time he was a student at the University and founded one of our student newspapers.

Five of the 12 EXACT Fellows will return to Edinburgh after their stints in European think tanks – Andrew Byrne, Marlene Gottwald, Niklas Helwig, Nicole Koenig, and Marco Sitti – to complete their PhDs. Three others - Leonhard den Hertog, James Nyomakwa-Obimpeh and Tatjana Petrovid Rava – will also spend time in Edinburgh for supervision by colleagues in Politics/IR as they work towards completion of their PhDs.

All involved in EXACT owe thanks to Niklas Helwig and Wulf Reiners for coordinating the December study visit to Edinburgh.
