PIR ranked 5th in UK for “Female Presence”

Research by UK political scientists ranks Edinburgh highly.

An article in the October 2012 issue of Politics has ranked Edinburgh's Politics & International Relations subject area as the 5th highest in the UK for "female presence", joint 12th for the percentage of female political scientists, and joint 15th for the percentage of females in senior roles. 79 political science departments or subject areas were surveyed across the UK.

The term “female presence” was used by the researchers to describe the result when the percentage of female members of the department was combined (using weightings) with the percentage of females in senior roles.

Since the research was carried out in August 2011, Politics & International Relations at Edinburgh has increased its proportion of female academics from 38% of the subject area faculty to 39.4%. The national average is 30.8%.
