Political Analysis on the Election

Colleagues from PIR & other areas in SPS will be well represented on election night media coverage and analysis of the results the following day. On the night Ailsa Henderson and Charlie Jeffery will be leading the political analysis of the results on STV and BBC Scotland respectively. Nicola McEwen will be at the count in Glasgow providing expert commentary for BSkyB on the results in Scotland. Robert Lineira and Alan Convery will be crunching numbers backstage at the BBC. Jan Eichhorn will be sharing his thoughts via the Scotsman’s website and Michael Keating of the Centre on Constitutional Change will be in the hot seat on Radio Scotland.

With polls suggesting that little is likely to be settled simply by counting the ballots, PIR academics will be on hand throughout the Friday to help bring clarity to the situation. Nicola McEwen and Ailsa Henderson will go back into the fray on BBC Scotland all afternoon, dividing their time between radio and TV. Alan Convery will be taking part in Radio 5 Live’s marathon coverage from 5am to 7pm – for a reasonably manageable five hours in the middle of the day. Dan Kenealy will be spending the day with Al Jazeera, while Bettina Petersohn, Jan Eichhorn and Robert Lineira will be interviewed on international stations.

Members of the Department will also be working with the print media, international publications and news agencies, so expect to see some familiar names are likely to crop up in some surprising places.
