PIR Welcomes New Lecturers

We are pleased to welcome both Dr Kasia Kaczmarska and Dr Benjamin Martill who join us this semester as Lecturers in Politics and International Relations.

Dr Kasia Kaczmarska

Kasia’s research is in the sociology of knowledge and expertise, with a particular focus on knowledge-making in non-democratic states. She is a keen observer of post-Soviet politics and over the course of past 8 years did her fieldwork in Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan. More recently, she became interested in questions of academic freedom and ways of assessing and comparing it across the globe.

She completed her PhD at Aberystwyth University in 2015 and joins Edinburgh Politics and IR after having completed a Horizon2020-sponsored individual research project Knowledge on International Relations in Russia. She holds an MSc degree form SOAS, University of London.

Dr Benjamin Martill

Benjamin joins us from the Dahrendorf Forum at LSE IDEAS, where he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. His research and teaching focuses on European security, Brexit, and the politics of foreign policy. Benjamin has worked previously at the London School of Economics, University College London, Canterbury Christ Church University, and the University of Oxford. He received his DPhil (PhD) from University College, Oxford in 2015 for a thesis on the party politics of Cold War security.
