Québécois leader visits the School
Bloc Québécois leader discusses Independence for Quebec.
The Institute of Governance was delighted to host an event with M. Gilles Duceppe MP, leader of the Bloc Qébécois, a Canadian political party that campaigns for Quebec sovereignty. M Duceppe, who has been leader of the Bloc Québécois since 1997, met with senior academic staff associated with the Institute, before giving a public presentation to around 100 students and staff. A recording of the seminar will appear on the Institute of Governance website in due course.
Nicola McEwen, Co-Director of the Institute of Governance, noted that the seminar underlined the many parallels and mutual understanding that can be gained from studying the politics and nationalist movements of Scotland and Quebec. She said: "Hosting this visit is recognition of the University's rich expertise in the field of comparative nationalism and constitutional politics."
