Bernard Crick Award 2011
May Darwich awarded the 2011 Bernard Crick Fellowship Award
May's research focuses on the International Relations of the Middle East. She is working on the alliance/alignment behavior of the Arab states in different contexts and periods, by addressing the question of whether identity and societal structures or material factors drives the state to align their security policies with one another and by combining comparative case study approach with theory building. The attempt of this research is to help explain not only individual foreign policy decisions but also the patterns of interstate relations in the Middle East, by comparing the continuities and the changes in the behaviour of different Arab states in different contexts.
