Juliet Kaarbo contributes to debate on Scotland in the world
Juliet presented at Scotsman conference considering an independent Scotland's place in the world.
Dr Juliet Kaarbo, Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Relations, was invited to present on “Foreign Policy Considerations for Small States” at conference organized by The Scotsman on 23 October 2012.
The conference, entitled A Question of Independence: Scotland’s Place in the World, also featured External Affairs Secretary Fiona Hyslop, former SNP MP Jim Sillars, and other academic speakers.
Julie talked about the constraints that small states face and how small states can overcome their resource disadvantage through soft power, leadership, networking and other strategies of influence. She emphasized the importance of a state’s identity and how a state’s identity projection is constrained both externally and internally.
The Scotsman covered the conference in a news item.
