Mathias Thaler starts Marie Curie grant
Chancellor's Fellow has been awarded by the European Commission a four-year project to study political violence
PIR Chancellor's Fellow Mathias Thaler has recently been awarded a Marie Curie Career Integration Grant to conduct research on political violence, in particular on notions of genocide, terrorism and torture. The project runs from 2013 to 2017 and aims to advance political theory’s contribution to the interdisciplinary study of these forms of violence. Its main goal is to work towards a reinvigorated political theory that recognizes the guidance of ethical principles without disregarding real politics. This goal will be reached through the development of a pragmatically grounded account of judgment. A set of case studies from a variety of contexts will supplement the theoretical work. Mathias Thaler will also organize a number of academic and knowledge exchange events to make the project's findings accessible to the wider public.
