PIR Staff Receives Top National Teaching Award

Bernard Crick Award for Outstanding Teaching

Politics senior lecturer Dr Elizabeth Bomberg received the UK Political Studies Association’s (PSA’s) Bernard Crick Award for Outstanding Teaching.  The judging panel noted her leadership in developing environmental politics curriculum, her initiatives to widen student access, and her general enthusiasm and passion for teaching.  The ceremony took place in Manchester’s historic Town Hall at the annual PSA conference in April.  Elizabeth received her prize from Shami Chakrabarti, Director of Liberty and honorary professor of Law, and PSA President, Professor Charlie Jeffrey.
The award is named in honour of Professor Sir Bernard Crick, an eminent political scientist whose work (including ‘In Defence of Politics’, 1962) has inspired generations of Politics students and teachers.  Elizabeth, who first won an earlier version of the prize in 1997, was delighted to receive the Crick Main award this year, noting ‘we needn’t let old age get in the way of inspired teaching.’
