The story of Edinburgh's first female Professor newly discovered

Elizabeth Wiskemann was not only the first woman to hold a chair at Edinburgh, (the Montague Burton Chair in International Relations 1958-1961), she was also lauded as a war hero for her exploits in wartime Europe.

Her story is told by archivist Paul Barnaby in this blogpost which details not only her exploits as a journalist, as an intelligence agent during World War Two, and her contributions to teaching in the university, as her interests moved from Europe to newly independent Africa.
