Outstanding PIR Tutor Award 2015-16

The Outstanding PIR Tutor Award recognizes leadership, commitment, and overall excellence of our current doctoral students for their tutoring in PIR undergraduate courses.

We received several strong nominations  from our undergraduate students, but the Teaching Committee unanimously chose Lisa Schweiger to receive this award.  Honourable mentions this year go to Andrew Drever, Mike Slaven, and Luba Zatsepina-McCreadie. 

Lisa was nominated by her students in Theories of IR and Global Security Her nominators praised her for being engaging, and passionate about IR and teaching IR.  They noted her enthusiastic and friendly style, which made her very approachable.  And said the tutorial environment was open, participatory and fun.  They like her role plays, mind-maps and quick-style hot-seat debate.

According to one “I had Lisa as a tutor last semester and made sure I was in her tutorial for another class.  I know a lot of other students who feel the same way and that is why I decided to put her forward for this award.”

Another remarked that they were not interested in the course material before Lisa consistently increased her interest in the subjects. And in one of the best nominations we’ve seen, a s

tudent wrote

“Lisa gave me the worst mark I have ever received.  It surprised me, disappointed me, and made me angry – but it was the biggest favour anyone could have done for me.  Lisa gave me the mark I deserved and provided the impetus to truly up my game and do myself proud – she has challenged me and completely transformed the way in which I study and the expectations I place upon myself.”

So congratulations Lisa on a well-deserved award, keep up the good work!
