PIR/SPS welcomes Chinese delegation
Experts ranged across the UoE to exchange ideas with top officials on public sector reform
Prof Andy Thompson has organised a day-long conference on Wednesday 8th November for a visiting Chinese delegation on the topic of public sector reforms.
The delegation will consist of senior policy officials, including the Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Society of Administrative Reform (CSOAR), Director-general and Professor, Department of Public Administration and Policy, Chinese Academy of Governance; the Director of Xicheng District Administrative Service Centre of Beijing Municipality; the Director of China Quality Certification Centre; the Director of the General Office, China Society of Administrative Reform (CSOAR), plus officials from the Chinese consulate in Edinburgh.
Head of SPS Prof Linda McKie will provide a welcome address, while fellow UoE staff will speak on the following:
Prof Thompson will provide the macro context of Scottish Government policies since devolution. Dr Richard Norris (Visiting Fellow in the Academy of Government and recent Director of the Scottish Health Council) will cover NHS policy development in Scotland. Prof Richard Kerley (Professor of Management at Queen Margaret University) will talk about local government reforms in Scotland. The delegates will then meet with Mary Fee, MSP, (Convenor) and Daniel Cairns (Secretary) of the Cross-Party Group on China.
