Edinburgh PIR wins funding for 'Transworld'

Work to begin on major EU-funded project on transatlantic relations

Edinburgh Politics and IR have been successful in a bid for a large and innovative project on relations between the United States and European Union. TRANSWORLD will be led by the Institute for International Affairs (IAI) in Rome and is funded through the EU's Framework VII programme for €3.2 million over 3 years. It brings together 13 institutional partners including the University of Edinburgh.

PIR’s Chad Damro and John Peterson will be conducting research within the project on conceptualising the redefinition of the transatlantic relationship, the global economy and US and EU adjustment policies, US and EU contributions to regional and global governance architectures, and policy proposals to seize on US-EU synergies in boosting global governance. The EUROPA Institute's EU grants administrator, Caroline Laffey, will offer administrative support.

TRANSWORLD seeks to achieve a major advance in our knowledge of the transatlantic relationship and how durable it is, but also in how it is changing and will change in the future.

The project begins in March 2012. The project’s web-site will be www.transworld-fp7.eu (operational as from May 2012).
