Reports

Members of the Public Policy Research Group regularly contribute to reports written for research sponsors, funders and users.

Richard Freeman and Dawit Wondimagegn presented their report on Mental health policy making in Ethiopia to meetings of clinical and academic psychiatrists, nurses and ministerial officials in Addis Ababa in January 2008.  For more information and a copy of the report, contact Dawit.

In Better Safe Than Sorry, a report written by group member Zoe Keddie, the Audit Commission raised the issue of accidental injuries to children in vulnerable families.  A Children's Plan announced by the Government has since set out details of a new Home Safety Equipment scheme targeted at families in deprived circumstances.

Zoe was also involved in the Audit Commission's report on Tackling Childhood Obesity, which examines the government's target 'to halt the increase in obesity among children under the age of 11 by 2010', set in 2004 as a Public Service Agreement.  The report concludes that there is a risk that the target (jointly held by DH, DfES and DCMS) may not be met unless Departments provide clear guidance and leadership.

Charles Raab co-authored the Surveillance Studies Network's Report on the Surveillance Society. The report was commissioned by the UK Information Commissioner and aims to stimulate a debate on the effects of surveillance on individual privacy and, more broadly, on society in the UK and elsewhere.  The report analyses surveillance and its effects, gives scenarios of encounters with surveillance in everyday life in 2006 and 2016, and questions the effectiveness of existing regulation.
