Dr Richard Freeman teaches theory and method in the Graduate School of Social and Political Sciences, University of Edinburgh, where he is also Director of the Public Policy Network. He has held fellowships at the European University Institute, Yale University and the University of Bremen. His research interests are in policy learning and change across countries: he is author of The Politics of Health in Europe (Manchester UP, 2000) and co-editor of Comparative Studies and the Politics of Modern Medical Care (Yale UP, 2009).

Dr Steve Sturdy is Deputy Director of the Genomics Forum at Edinburgh.  His research has chiefly been concerned with the relationship between medical science, medical policy and medical practice in nineteenth- and twentieth-century Britain.  His publications include the edited volumes Medicine, Health and the Public Sphere in Britain 1600-2000 (Routledge, 2002), and, with Roger Cooter and Mark Harrison, War, Medicine and Modernity (Sutton, 1998) and Medicine and Modern Warfare (Rodopi, 1999).


Dr Jennifer Smith-Merry is Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Sydney in Australia. Here her work focuses on both mental health and adverse events/complaints regulation in the context of policy and services. She was previously full-time research fellow on the KnowandPol project at the University of Sydney.
