Politics and International Relations (PIR): Research

Regional Dynamics of Party Competition

Eve Hepburn is is currently working on a Leverhulme trust-funded project on the 'Regional Dynamics of Party Competition' in Italy, Germany, the UK and Canada (2008-10). This project explores how parties compete at the regional level on territorial and policy issues, how regional party systems diverge from the state level, and how political parties adapt to the regional level. This research adapts the methodology and coding scheme employed by the Comparative Manifestos Project (CMP) to the regional setting. In conducting this research, Eve has held visiting fellowships at the University of British Columbia (June 2009), McGill University (July 2009), the European University Institute in Florence (September 2009) and the University of Cagliari in Sardinia (October 2008). This project builds upon research undertaken during the Fellow's previous ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship (2007-8), which examined 'The Challenges and Opportunities for Substate Territories in Europe'.
