Meryl Kenny is an ESRC Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Politics and International Relations. She completed her PhD at the University of Edinburgh in 2009. Her doctoral thesis - entitled 'Gendering Institutions: The Political Recruitment of Women in Post-Devolution Scotland' - was awarded the UK Political Studies Association Arthur McDougall Fund Prize for best dissertation in the field of elections, electoral systems, and representation in 2010.
Meryl's research interests include feminist institutionalism, women and comparative politics, political recruitment, political representation, and territorial politics. She is currently the network coordinator of the Feminism and Institutionalism International Network. Meryl is also the co-convenor of the ECPR Gender and Politics Graduate Network (with Christina Alnevall, Stockholm University). Along with Dr. Fiona Mackay, she co-convenes the Gender and Politics Research Group in Politics & IR, as well as the Gender Reading Group (GRG). She is also a member of the Elections, Parties, and Public Opinion (EPOP) and Territorial Politics research groups.
Meryl currently lectures on the undergraduate honours course Contemporary Feminist Thought. She has also taught on Introduction to Politics and International Relations, Democracy in Comparative Perspective, Comparative Politics, and Social and Political Enquiry.
