Politics and International Relations (PIR): Study

Postgraduate Study

At the post-graduate level we offer six taught MSc programmes, three of which cover broad sub-disciplines:

and three with more specific focus:

The Parliamentary Internship Programme offers UK and international undergraduates the opportunity to complete courses in Scottish and British Politics taught by Edinburgh faculty, as well as be matched with a Member of the Scottish Parliament to complete their internship.

We also offer full and part time MSc by Research degrees and a three-year PhD in Politics. Both involve research training courses in the first year and all postgraduate research students are paired with two permanent staff members as supervisors. Our PhD graduates have gone on to win post-doctoral fellowships and secure lectureships at top-ranked UK and international universities. Details of funding available for those applying to our MSc by Research and PhD programmes is available here.

From 2018 until 2012 we also offered, through the Academy of Government, professional programmes such as the Master of Public Policy, Master of International Affairs, and the Executive Programme in Public Policy.
